On November 4th, the "2023 Lishui Traditional Chinese Medicine Identification Training Course", hosted by Lishui Pharmaceutical Association and undertaken by Benefit Pharmaceutical, was grandly held at Benefit Pharmaceutical. Nearly 150 practitioners engaged in trait identification and quality research of Chinese medicinal materials and decoction pieces from Lishui's market supervision system, pharmaceutical production and R&D enterprises, medical institutions and other related units participated in this training.

Based on industrial services, this training course aims to improve the level of traditional Chinese medicine identification and testing in relevant units engaged in pharmaceutical research, production, operation, use and supervision in the city, further strengthen the important role of Chinese medicinal materials and decoction pieces identification in quality and safety supervision of Chinese medicinal materials and decoction pieces, development of Zhejiang authentic medicinal materials industry, and inheritance and innovative development of traditional Chinese medicine, prevent quality risks, and promote the innovative development of the traditional Chinese medicine industry.

The training course was hosted by Fan Lei, Vice President of Lishui Institute of Quality Inspection and Secretary-General of Lishui Pharmaceutical Association. Zhou Jirong, Deputy Director of Lishui Municipal Market Supervision Bureau, and Zhang Liyun, Executive President of Benefit Pharmaceutical, delivered speeches respectively.

Director Zhou stated that the ability to control the quality of traditional Chinese medicine directly affects the clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine, is related to the life and health of the people, and also related to the long-term development of traditional Chinese medicine. It is hoped that through this training, on the one hand, it can effectively improve the quality control level of Chinese medicinal decoction pieces in traditional Chinese medicine enterprises, meet the internal needs of traditional Chinese medicine enterprises to improve product quality and management level; on the other hand, it can deepen the scientific understanding of traditional Chinese medicine quality among traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, enhance the ability of traditional Chinese medicine production enterprises to identify traditional Chinese medicine, thereby laying a solid talent foundation for the development of traditional Chinese medicine industry in the city and making due contributions to promoting the rapid, healthy and sustainable development of Zhejiang's traditional Chinese medicine cause.

Zhang Liyun, Executive President of Benefit Pharmaceutical, said that this training course aims to improve the ability of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners to identify traditional Chinese medicine and enhance their ability to identify the authenticity of Chinese medicinal materials. Through professional training, it will guide traditional Chinese medicine practitioners in the city to strengthen their exploration and research on traditional Chinese medicine, create a learning atmosphere of pursuing excellence, and better promote the talent training process of traditional Chinese medicine, contributing to the improvement of traditional Chinese medicine quality and the high-quality development of the traditional Chinese medicine industry.

The training course invited Zhang Ji, former curator of the Chinese Medicine Herbarium of the National Institutes for Food and Drug Control, special professor of the School of Chinese Medicine at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and part-time professor of the Advanced Research Institute of the National Medical Products Administration and Northwest University; and Li Huadong, special visiting professor of Shanghai Naval Medical University and special Chinese medicine expert of Zhejiang Institute for Drug Control, to give special lectures on common Chinese medicinal materials from the aspects of Chinese materia medica, medicinal botany, Chinese medicine identification, and identification methods and skills of Chinese medicinal decoction pieces.

Zhang Ji, former curator of the Chinese Medicine Herbarium of the National Institutes for Food and Drug Control, delivered a keynote report on "Herbalogy and Identification of Bombyx Batryticatus and Hirudo". Starting from the herbalogy and identification of the two species, from historical classics to the current Chinese Pharmacopoeia, from ancient herbal records to modern pharmaceutical data records, from the growth characteristics of silkworms and leeches to the processing process, he analyzed in detail the past and present of Bombyx Batryticatus and Hirudo, leading everyone to trace the origin and uncover the mysterious veil of the two animal medicines.

Li Huadong, special Chinese medicine expert of Zhejiang Institute for Drug Control, delivered a keynote report on "Identification of Counterfeit and Inferior Drugs in Common Chinese Medicine Markets in Recent Two Years". With high-definition comparison charts, Professor Li explained in detail the identification characteristics of medicinal materials that are prone to be confused in the market in recent years. The illustration with both pictures and texts intuitively demonstrated the profoundness and extensiveness of traditional Chinese medicine culture.

Through this training, the participants not only improved their own knowledge level but also strengthened the exchange of experience on Chinese medicinal materials identification. The two professors answered questions on site for the participants, who actively participated in lively exchanges, creating a strong learning atmosphere. Each participant concentrated on the rich and interesting study. The participants said that they benefited a lot from this training, which was very inspiring for improving their knowledge structure and working methods.

Traditional Chinese medicine is a precious cultural treasure of the Chinese nation. The Chinese medicinal materials industry is one of the most distinctive advantageous industries in Zhejiang, and also an important part of the people-benefiting industry, poverty alleviation industry, modern pharmaceutical industry and the "trillion-level big health industry".
